FIRM DIRECTOR MOFFETT HONORED BY ECBA AT ANNUAL MEETING IN ATLANTA
On February 13, 2010, the Electric Cooperative Bar Association presented the ECBA Leadership Awards - honoring vision, tenacity, and hard work of those members of the NRECA Lawyers Committee and the inaugural ECBA Advisory Board who were insturmental in ensuring that the objectives and goals of ECBA were met during the transition phase and through the launch of ECBA. Our own Larry D. Moffett was one of the recipients of this honor presented at the Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.


TWO NEW DCH&B ATTORNEYS SWORN INTO MISSISSIPPI BAR

JACKSON ABLES WINS GAS LITIGATION IN DALLAS
Jackson H. Ables, III, a member of the DCH&B Energy and Natural Resources Practice Group, and its former chair, defended a tortious interference and conspiracy litigation brought in Dallas County and tried in August, 2009 against a Mississippi energy company sued over mineral leases on lands in Leon County, Texas. The claim was for rights to gas leases alleged to be worth more than a half-billion dollars plus exemplary or punitive damages.  Ables is a member of the Energy Bar Association.

McCHAREN FEATURED SPEAKER
Silas W. McCharen, Chairperson of the firm's Labor and Employment Law Practice Group, was the featured speaker at the June 3, 2009 meeting of the Capital Area Human Resource Association.  He spoke on "The Nuts & Bolts of Employment Discrimination".

JACKSON ABLES MODERATES NEW YORK PANEL
Jackson H. Ables, III, who chairs the firm's Insurance Law Practice Group, and is a member of the ALFA International National Insurance Law Steering Committee was moderator of the panel of industry speakers entitled "Preventing the Bad Faith Claim" at New York's Marriott Financial Center on June 18, 2009.  This was the first day of ALFA's three day biennial symposium "Claims, Coverage and Change: Confronting Traditional Issues in Today's Non-Traditional Economic Climate." Mr. Ables is a frequent speaker and contributor to ALFA International seminars and publications.


GONZALEZ CHOSEN PANELIST AT MISSISSIPPI
WORKERS' COMPENSATION EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE
John S. Gonzalez was chosen by the Mississippi Workers' Commission to be a panel speaker at its annual Mississippi Workers' Compensation Educational Conference held in April 2009.  John and three other members of the bar presented their recommendations for reforming certain areas of the Workers' Compensation Act.  Four members of the Legislature of the State of Mississippi were also present to comment on the recommendations made by the panel of attorneys.

Alan C. Cameron delivered the Keynote address at the the Sea Grant Law & Policy Journal 2009 Symposium held March 24-25, 2009 at the Unversity of Missisippi.  The symposium was sponsored by the National Sea Grant Law Center.

ROBERT S. ADDISON NAMED FELLOW IN THE LITIGATION COUNSEL OF AMERICA
Daniel Coker Horton & Bell, announces that Robert S. Addison has been named a Fellow in The Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.  Fellowship in the LCA is highly selective and by invitation only.  Fellows are selected based upon effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation and superior ethical reputation.

WILTON V. BYARS, III, SELECTED FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE FEDERATION OF DEFENSE AND CORPORATE COUNSEL
Wilton V. Byars, III, is honored to have been selected for membership in the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, an organization composed of leaders in the legal community. Federation members have been judged by their peers to have achieved professional distinction, and are committed to promoting knowledge, fellowship, professionalism and the course of justice. Membership in the Federation consists of defense counsel in private practice, in-house corporate and insurance counsel, and non-attorney claims executives. New members must be nominated and seconded by two current members, and are rigorously investigated by the Admissions Committee. Currently, the Federation is made up of 1,072 defense counsel members, together with an increasing number of corporate counsel members.

NEWMAN DRISKELL APPOINTED TO RULES ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE LITIGATION AND GENERAL PRACTICE SECTION OF THE MISSISSIPPI BAR
On April 29, 2008, Brooke Newman Driskell was appointed to serve a two year term on the Rules Advisory Committee for the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi. She is one of only eight attorneys in Mississippi to be selected to serve on this Committee.

In June, 2008 Brooke will be sworn in to serve as a member of the Executive Committee of the Litigation and General Practice Section of the Mississippi Bar.

ADDISON ELECTED TO WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Robert Addison, a director with the law firm of Daniel Coker Horton & Bell, has been elected a member of the Board of Trustees of William Carey University. Founded in 1906 as Mississippi's Women's College, the University was renamed in 1954 in honor of William Carey, the founder of modern missions. William Carey University has three locations: Hattiesburg, Gulfport and a School of Nursing at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

ADDISON AND SMITH APPOINTEDTO COUNCIL ON ETHICAL BILLING
Robert S. Addison has been appointed as state co-chairman for the Council on Ethical Billing. Roy A. Smith, Jr. was also appointed to the Council. The Council on Ethical Billing (CEB) is an alliance of select attorneys, law firms, insurance companies, risk managers and general council of some of the nation's largest businesses, coming together to promote high levels of performance and ethics in defense litigation. Selection of attorneys and law firms to the Council by Fellows is indicative of their reputation for performance, ethics and professional commitment to the community, and diversity. ADDISON PRESENTS 2007 COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS AT WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY
Robert Addison gave the 2007 Commencement Address at William Carey University to 500 candidates for graduation with several thousand attendees. Founded in 1906 as Mississippi Woman's College, the University was renamed in 1954 in honor of William Carey, the founder of modern missions.
