Defense Verdict in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, for Defendant Trucking Company in Automobile Accident

Defendant trucker stopped behind Plaintiff’s vehicle at signal light. When the light turned green, Defendant Trucker believed Plaintiff’s vehicle had driven away because he did not see the automobile due to the low profile of Plaintiff’s vehicle and the height of the truck. When Defendant Trucker drove forward he rear-ended Plaintiff’s vehicle. Liability was admitted, and the case proceeded only as to damages. Plaintiff alleged multiple injuries; and her neurologist testified that she suffered a permanent neurological injury to her leg which had resulted in significant atrophy. The case was defended on the basis that Plaintiff’s injuries were pre-existing. The total medical bills were approximately $20,000. Plaintiff’s counsel asked the jury for approximately $300,000. The jury returned a verdict for Defendants finding that Plaintiff was not injured in the subject accident.
